My Best Friend’s Baby
In development | fiction feature
Damir (33) and Sara (37) are best friend in their 30s. They’re two lost birds who found each other and built their nest i Stockholm’s queer scene. Damir lives for the night, floating from bar to bar, but still
hasn’t come out as gay to his family who live in Croatia. He prefers to dodge their questions about his private life. Sara’s self-reliant and loves to take charge, and can often make decisions for the both of
them. They have a perfect symbiosis. But Sara very much wants to be a mother. As a single lesbian, this means doing fertility
treatments on her own. Damir donates his sperm to Sara, and she gets pregnant. Their deal is that Damir is not to be the
baby’s father, he is just a sperm donor.
Early in Sara’s pregnancy, the two friends travel to Croatia for a week to attend Damir’s cousin’s wedding. They will pretend that Sara is Damir’s girlfriend, as she’s done before, but they will not tell anyone
in Damir’s family about the pregnancy. In this new environment, on an Adriatic Island, with pregnancy hormones flowing,
surrounded by Damir’s intrusive family - something starts to shift between the friends.
Now Damir och Sara must face the fact that the baby is real and on its way - and that everything is about to change.
